Failure to renew certification will result in the certificate becoming inactive. Conditional certificates are not renewable. Certificate reactivation If a Water and Wastewater Certificate expires and it is later required, this triggers a reactivation. Reciprocity Alberta is required to issue the same type and level of drinking water and wastewater certificates issued in other provinces and territories if the certificate is in good standing. Certificates will be issued at a comparable level, without examination, to any person operating an Alberta facility requiring certified operators, who holds valid operator certification from another province or equivalent certifying authority.

Level 2 Wastewater Treatment Exam

D First of all, a facultative pond has an aerobic layer in the upper portion, and an anaerobic layer in the lower portion of the pond. The aerobic layer contains oxygen, while the anaerobic layer does not. This question is regarding the upper aerobic layer. In the upper layer, algae uses sunlight as a source of energy to consume carbon dioxide in the wastewater to produce oxygen.

Wastewater Grade 2 Cert

This process is called photosynthesis, which provides oxygen to the microorganisms to treat the wastewater. During the day, with the presence of sunlight, this process increases oxygen in the pond. Towards the end of the day, there is a lot of oxygen available due to the algae. In contrast, a different reaction occurs at night because of the lack of sunlight. Oxygen is no longer produced by the algae. Instead, the algae consumes oxygen, and releases carbon dioxide. So, an opposite reaction takes place at night. Therefore, at sunrise, there is less oxygen in the pond because it is consumed by the algae during darkness. Furthermore, as a new day starts, the oxygen content in the wastewater increases again because the algae is using the sunlight to consume carbon dioxide and release oxygen.

Study Guides - Water Treat Tech

To clarify, this cycle repeats itself everyday. During the day, algae releases oxygen. C Dissolved oxygen DO is lowest at sunrise because the algae consumes oxygen and releases carbon dioxide during night-time and the dark, early morning hours. This process is called respiration. Without the presence of sunlight, the oxygen in the pond becomes depleted due to the algae. We briefly discussed this earlier, in the answer to Question 1. However, when the sun starts to rise, the algae will begin to use the sunlight to consume carbon dioxide and release oxygen. This increases the oxygen level in the pond. At the end of the day, there is a lot of oxygen available. This process is called photosynthesis. In contrast, at night, algae consumes oxygen. When this ratio increases, it means that the acidity in the digester is increasing, which is a bad sign. In general, you want to avoid an acidic environment in the digester because it leads to upset.

Take a look at the following math conversion. Keep in mind that 1 liter L of wastewater weighs 1,, milligrams mg. Look at the bottom of the fraction in STEP 1. It must be removed from the clarifier on a frequent basis. Consequently, these bubbles will lift the settled sludge to the water surface. The purpose of the clarifier is to remove the incoming waste by settling solids to the bottom using gravity. Moreover, you should aim to have a thick sludge with minimal water content. In order to better understand this subject, I encourage you to carefully review the following image.

The yellow arrows show the path of the sludge. Once it enters the primary clarifier, the sludge starts to settle to the bottom. Later, it is periodically removed with a primary sludge pump. Incidentally, the pink arrow moving to the right, is the path of the treated sewage, which flows to the next stage for further treatment. By using gravity, these heavier solids are allowed to settle to the bottom of the grit channel. You want to remove these heavier wastes because they can cause excessive wear in mechanical equipments, such as pumps. Therefore, the grit channel is located in the earlier stage of the treatment process. This reduced velocity helps settle the heavier solids, while keeping the lighter organics suspended. Grit Channel is used to remove heavier solids.
